China is a fabulous place if you are looking for ancient history mixed with modern attractions exploration. “The mountain is a Buddha and the Buddha is a mountain.” So goes the famous Chinese saying, one that’s attributed to the spectacular 71-meter-tall Leshan Giant Buddha. And it certainly makes sense as you stand at its feet as the colossal statue towers high above you. Started in AD 713 by a Buddhist monk and completed 90 years later, this important religious icon is carved entirely from a stone cliff-face and is the largest Buddha sculpture in the world. Representing the Buddha Maitreya, the statue is even more dramatic given its location overlooking the river that it was designed to appease (it had often proven treacherous for shipping). Designated an UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Giant Buddha continues to draw huge numbers of pilgrims from across the globe and is widely regarded as one of China’s must-visit attractions. Easily accessible from the city of Chengdu, the Leshan Giant Buddha can be reached by a fun ferry trip from the public docks in Leshan. The scenic park in which the Buddha is set is also worth exploring, so be sure to allocate sufficient time in your itinerary. Looking for cheap cruises? Tibet is an incredible travel destination, so much history and mystery. The Potala Palace is a symbol of Tibet. The majestic white and red building complex, set against grey/green mountains and blue sky, is an iconic image of the Roof of the World. It is a huge treasure house of materials and articles from Tibetan history, religion, culture, and art. The palace is widely known for precious sculptures, Buddha statues, murals, antiques, and religious jewelry housed within. It is the must-see attraction which is included on almost all Tibet tour itineraries. The number of travelers to the palace is limited each day to protect the building complex. Visiting time for the Potala is limited to one hour per tour group. Yamdrok Lake is one of the four “Great Wrathful Lakes” guarded by the goddess Dorje Gegkyi Tso and is regarded as one of the most sacred of the holy lakes in Tibet. It is so sacred that Tibet’s fate is traditionally tied to this freshwater lake: it is believed that if Yamdrok Tso Lake dries, Tibet would not be habitable. Yamdrok Lake is a72 km (45 mi) long fresh water lake and has a very beautiful scenery. Its crystal clear, blue waters are surrounded by snow-capped mountains. The lake is also one of the most easily accessible of the holy lakes. It is on Friendship Highway S307 (the highway connecting Nepal to Tibet), and you can have a panoramic view of the lake from the road. In addition to Chinese visa to enter the country, you need an additional visa called Tibet Visa, or Tibet permit to enter the Tibet Autonomous Region. This document is issued by Tibet Tourism Bureau (TTB) and arranged by the tour operator (it usually takes 3 workdays to get this permit). This document is needed before buying the travel ticket to Tibet. Tibet Travel Permit alone will only allow you to enter Lhasa City and some parts of Shigatse Prefecture and Lhoka and Nyingchi, Nagqu, etc. For getting out of Lhasa City, you need one more document named Aliens’ Travel Permit. The Alien’s Travel Permit is issued by police, Public Security Bureau. If you are planning to go out of Lhasa City and visit places in “unopened areas” like Shigatse, Samye Monastery or Everest Base Camp, you need this document.

Incredible Turkey … the place at the middle between East and West cultures. Located in Istanbul, the Hagia Sophia was originally a basilica constructed for the Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian I in the sixth century. A masterwork of Roman engineering, the massive dome (31 meters or 102 feet in diameter) covers what was for over 1000 years the largest enclosed space in the world. The church was looted by the fourth Crusaders in 1204, and became a mosque in the 15th century when The Ottomans conquered the city. The Hagia Sophia was converted into a museum in 1935 and is now one of the top attractions in Turkey. Source:
